Australian Cricket Players Salary in Indian Rupees

Australian cricket players boast some of the highest annual salaries worldwide when all revenue sources are considered, including sponsorship deals, team salary, match fees and Cricket Australia (CA) contract-based wages. However, these figures can be heavily impacted by Indian Premier League (IPL), where top-name players often see their annual earnings reach several hundred crores.

However, some Australian players still rank highly on CA’s internal payroll but do not earn enough to make CA’s global list. Test captain Pat Cummins ranks highly but his $2 Million annual pay packet cannot compare to Indian stars like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who earn more than double what Cummins does.

One factor for this could be that India’s domestic leagues offer much more lucrative contracts than those found in Australia, combined with IPL’s massively popular and financially rewarding nature, often leads to players prioritising club-based opportunities over international competitions.

With the rise of lucrative domestic leagues and their associated youth cricket programs, more young cricketers are making it into international squads, like Xavier Bartlett and Matt Short.

With the 2024 IPL auction underway, we decided to look at some of Australia’s best-known players’ salaries in Indian rupees. This list features IPL superstars Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood; in addition to some who play for national team but rank further down.

As previously discussed, top-ranked Australian cricketers can command high salaries based on their International Cricket Council rankings; however, that doesn’t always translate to being the best paid cricketers.

While playing in the IPL will bring many benefits for some players, others may struggle to secure contracts due to lacking skills or having inconsistent records. That is why it is imperative that Australia Cricket Board invest in youth cricket development – they hold the future of cricket within them!
