Australian Mens Performance

Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell were unable to play for Australia in this match on a poor Queen’s Park Oval pitch, leaving their side struggling in terms of numbers on an eight-wicket loss against full strength Windies side. Support staff had to step in as numbers in order for Australia to remain competitive against such an intimidating opponent.

Shamar Joseph’s remarkable 10-0-60-6 performance gave West Indies cricket a real shot in the arm, giving them hope they could turn this series around despite facing such daunting odds. Yet it should also serve as a stark reminder of just how tough a battle they are facing against England.

Bradman famously noted that players should play for their fans rather than for a flag, an idea often forgotten by observers who view teams such as Windies with disdain. When their absent players don’t represent their country properly they are dismissed as “mercenaries”, while players who do take the field are dismissed as incompetent makeweights undeserving of national recognition – it’s a shame, because this game should be celebrated and revered.

West Indies Mens Performance

Nicholas Pooran made headlines with an impressive 75 off 25 balls performance to propel West Indies to 4-257 in their second innings at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. Batsmen made use of its small dimensions and dewy outfield in building an incredible total.

Pooran’s powerful blows got the hosts off to an excellent start, but after losing four wickets during the powerplay period they found it hard to maintain momentum. Andre Russell and Rovman Powell tried their hardest but it proved futile despite their efforts.

Nathan Lyon was caught behind by Alzarri Joseph in the first over after lunch break when he attempted to move across his crease too far and was given out on review as leg before wicket (lbw).

Travis Head was caught off Joshua Da Silva to deny Roach his chance of scoring three. Alzarri Joseph’s offspin then helped West Indies reach a competitive first innings total.
