Overview

After an inauspicious start to their season, CSK look to get back on track against SRH in this must-win clash. Both teams are coming off losses in previous matches so this one promises to be tough; slow pitches could play into CSK’s hands as their powerful batting lineup has already scored three times over 250 this year!

Pat Cummins from SRH wins the toss and opts to bowl first. CSK are currently at 165/5 after Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Ruturaj Gaikwad all chipped in with some runs.

Jadeja starts his innings off with a single before hitting one to leg side for two, and hitting over midwicket for six. SRH are in serious difficulty as their target lies within reach and they have a great timeline for the match between the Chennai Super Kings and The Punjab Kings Timeline.

SRH won the toss and elected to bowl first. Mustafizur Rahman started off his over with two dot balls before Markram attempted a cut but found himself outfielded at backward point before hitting an aerial four off the next ball past Mustafizur’s head for four runs off an over. With 11 runs off their over, they have taken an early advantage.

Mitchell hits an innocuous bouncer from Natarajan and smashes it for six over long-off! Singles followed, before Gaikwad attempted to hit fine leg with his third ball but was caught there instead. Natarajan comes back for one last over and delivers two singles off his first three balls before Shahbaz upper cuts one over the keeper for four – sending SRH spiralling towards defeat! Now, Henrich Klaasen joins his former side.

Chennai Super Kings Highlights

Chennai Super Kings ultimately got moving after an initial slow start, at a pace sufficient to put them under control of their chase. They needed some good bowling from Simarjet Singh and Mitchell Santner who both performed admirably for CSK.

Ruturaj Gaikwad narrowly missed his maiden IPL hundred but shared an important 107-run partnership with Daryl Mitchell to keep CSK on course. CSK’s top order faltered after that but their bowlers saved them and ensured SRH were never in this contest.

Tushar Deshpande opened up with the ball, supported by Matheesha Pathirana. Their efforts decimated SRH’s top order and helped CSK secure an easy win at MA Chidambaram Stadium – especially after suffering defeat against Lucknow Super Giants earlier in their home stadium fixture. Now third in the table and with playoff hopes still strong.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Highlights

Sunrisers Hyderabad have an opportunity to regain second place and gain entry to Qualifier 1 with their home fixture against Delhi Capitals, providing another loss could jeopardise qualifying for playoff stages.

Abhishek Sharma of Sunrisers Hyderabad produced an aggressive half-century to set the pace and spark their chase of 247 runs for victory. In 28 balls he struck five fours and six sixes en route to reaching this important landmark.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowls the final over for SRH and multiple wides are called during it; CSK are only able to take seven runs off it.

Rahul Chahar to Heinrich Klaasen : Short and on middle, Rahul Chahar attempts to work it towards leg side but misses. After making no contact he goes for a ramp shot but completely misses.

Harpreet Brar to Sanvir Singh. A short and middle delivery by Harpreet Brar was played short and on middle, and Sanvir Singh used both his feet and punching it towards long on for one run off this delivery; two more runs needed for victory!

Final Words

CSK have triumphed by an enormous margin, winning by 78 runs. Hyderabad struggled during their middle overs, failing to capitalise on an early Powerplay blitz and never really finding their rhythm thereafter. Aiden Markram and Nitish Kumar Reddy put on a good partnership but ultimately they could not reach the target as quickly.

CSK’s bowling performance was excellent as they picked off wicket after wicket. Tushar Deshpande removed an explosive top order with early wickets of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh by taking them within three overs – including Travis Head’s, Abhishek Sharma’s and Anmolpreet Singh within three overs alone! Additionally they did an outstanding job restricting runs as Hyderabad did not get ahead of their asking rate; captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was proud of his team’s discipline while acknowledging that slow pitch played to their strength of spin; however was pleased by how their batsmen responded during middle overs by getting back into the game by finding themselves and making amends with them for themselves to comeback into play and make a great win!
