RCB 202 for 5 in 20 overs
“Catches win matches” continues to prove true as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) put up an impressive show during WPL history’s highest successful chase. Even while missing key players due to injuries, Royal Challengers Bangalore sent a strong signal to opponents that they must bring their A game if they hope to beat RCB.
RCB captain AB de Villiers got off to a strong start, scoring his 50 off 34 balls quickly. But West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd really stole the show by hitting seven sixes and five fours during her unbeaten 73 to give her side an impressive total to defend.
After winning the toss, RCB quickly lost Jacob Bethell to an incredible catch by Danni Wyatt-Hodge for 13 off 25 balls before Parthiv Patel scored 43 off 24 deliveries to bring their hosts within striking distance of victory.
But from there it was all downhill as RCB’s batsmen struggled to stem the run flow and take wickets at crucial moments, leading them to suffer their fifth loss of the season in front of their home fans – placing them on the brink of relegation from the top half of the table.
RCB will face off against GG in another match in an epic title fight, yet again. GG 201 for 5 in 20 overs
Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Women’s Premier League 2025 title defense suffered another setback on Friday when they were defeated by Gujarat Giants women at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. Without star player Smriti Mandhana for the first time this season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru struggled to score runs against an organized opposition and ended up losing by 105 runs despite some flashes from their batsmen. Now having lost three consecutive matches they must win their remaining ones to maintain any chance of qualifying for playoff qualification.
Ashleigh Gardner of GG struck early, bowling two overs that saw Smriti and Danni Wyatt-Hodge depart, setting back Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Deandra Dottin removed Raghvi Bist and Ellyse Perry to stop further momentum for the defending champions; Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield kept making progress, adding an important 76 run partnership that set their team off well.
Beth Mooney was caught at long-on by Laura Wolvaardt off debutant spinner Prema Rawat before Phoebe Litchfield fell for an impressive fifty to Georgia Wareham off Georgia Wareham for a well-made fifty, creating a strong batting lineup and Shubman Gill’s blistering 82 taking them to 201-5 from Overs 8-10.
However, RCB’s bowlers were unable to keep up the pressure, losing wickets regularly at the other end. Dropped catches, misfielding and missed run-out chances only compounded their woes before Richa Ghosh made up for it with an outstanding unbeaten 64 off just 27 balls that was the highest successful chase ever attempted in WPL history.
Final score
Rajat Patidar struggled to find his form and was bowled LBW by Azmatullah Omarzai, but the hosts’ lower order kept the scoreboard moving thanks to Liam Livingstone who scored two sixes during his quickfire 25 before falling LBW two overs later to Jamieson. Phil Salt, Yashavi Jaiswal, and captain Josh Hazlewood all played their parts as RCB reached 194/5 with 22 balls left in play.
With their win, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) recorded their inaugural home win of the season and moved up to third in the points table. RCB now have a higher Net Run Rate (NRR) than Delhi Daredevils who lost against Mumbai Indians.
Sanju Samson scored an unbeaten 92 off 47 balls during their previous meeting at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, which RCB eventually won by eight wickets. This high-voltage clash witnessed both thrilling batting and meticulous bowling from both teams.
India’s T20 league features two highly competitive franchises that engage in fierce rivalries for supremacy, and this match was no different. Both are eager to kickstart their seasons after experiencing slow starts.
