After winning the toss and electing to bat first, India Women opened with Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur who made an excellent start but were eventually put under pressure by Beth Mooney’s quickfire fifty and Ellyse Perry’s bold hitting which put Australia Women into a strong position with just 16 wickets remaining to chase down.

Mannat batted first and cut a slightly shorter ball through on side for a single. She attempted to pull a short ball but missed it, which the umpire reviewed and ruled out as leg before wicket (LBW).

Match Highlights

Smriti Mandhana’s brilliant century was key in India’s 219-run victory in its only Test against Australia Women at Nagpur. Bowlers Pooja Vastrakar and Titas Sadhu did an outstanding job of restricting Australia, taking two wickets each on the final day at Nagpur.

Alyssa Healy expresses satisfaction with how their team performed in this match, particularly Day 1. Although she feels they lacked balance in their batting on Day 1, they did manage to reach an impressive total in spite of missing some balance during Day 1.

Renuka Singh started off her fourth over with two dot balls, then followed with three singles before pitching short and angled at Healy who deflected it onto her pads for no run – leg-by! Renuka then attempted a sweep but missed it leg-by! Two singles finished the over before Renuka pitched fuller one to Healy who lofted it straight for six! A review ensued but TV umpire ruled NOT-OUT!!!

India defeated Australia at Wankhede Stadium by an overwhelming margin in their inaugural ODI, thanks to Jemimah Rodrigues, Pooja Vastrakar and Smriti Mandhana’s half centuries which helped build an immense lead of 310 runs.

Australian batsmen demonstrated perseverance as they attempted to claw their way back into the game, yet wickets fell at regular intervals. Deepti Sharma made history when she claimed her 100th ODI wicket by dismissing Healy and Mooney with successive deliveries in the 16th over.

Healy attempted to hit a short ball but was late and got an edge, leading Sneh Rana at third base to make an incredible catch and throw back at Healy for an out.

Pooja Vastrakar attempted a slog sweep in the next over, but mishits completely. She tried again with another full delivery outside off, only for it to hit a top edge that was easily picked off by cover fielder for two runs.

Team Rivalry

After defeating England, India’s women team has made clear they’re up for any challenge, beginning their three-match series against Australia with an emphatic nine-wicket win at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

Indian won the toss and decided to bowl first, giving Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana time to put together half-centuries that kept Australia at bay. Unfortunately, both wickets fell quickly, derailment took hold quickly, and India lost momentum quickly.

Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney struggled on a difficult pitch, scoring only 141 runs before Renuka Singh struck to bring Australia’s total down to just 142 runs.

Final words

India proved once again that “catches win matches”, as they missed several chances and fell to Australia Women by not taking full advantage of Alyssa Healy’s 74 and Jemimah Rodrigues’s 73 in notching half centuries but India were already struggling when reduced to seven for two on day one.

Pooja Vastrakar bowled an accurate fuller delivery that saw Ellyse Perry catch herself at long off for an amazing run out. As she returned back to the pavilion, the crowd broke into ecstatic cheers as Ellyse Perry made history!

Annabel Sutherland to Mannat Kashyap on a length that drifted down leg, as the batter attempted to use a top edge, she was caught out as Annabel Sutherland took an aggressive stance that left an appeal for LBW without success, she eventually left.
