Abid Mushtaq’s Finishing Touch

Abid Mushtaq’s slog sweep off Tanushree Kotian in the 49th over was the key moment that put J&K past Mumbai and secured victory. Mushtaq had earlier spearheaded J&K’s chase by scoring an unbeaten half century off 89 balls with seven fours; this innings proved vital as it ensured they reached their target without further setbacks.

Jammu and Kashmir’s performance in this match astounded cricket fans and was an apt demonstration of why domestic cricket remains the backbone of the sport – from tight bowling to century-making brilliance, they ticked all boxes.

Mumbai was undone by its star-studded lineup in their opening innings against Australia, being bowled out for just 120 runs on a pitch that initially appeared favourable to fast bowlers led by Umar Nazir Mir and Yudhvir Singh who exploited early bounce and swing to take wickets at an astonishing rate.

Rohit Sharma’s aggressive strokeplay and Shardul Thakur and Kotian’s partnership provided Mumbai with a solid platform in their second innings, amassing 147 runs in just 39 overs – two key contributors that nearly saw them reach victory before running out of steam – before Shubham Khajuria and Vivrant Sharma brought an unlikely win to them instead.

Yudhvir Singh’s All-Round Heroics

Yudhvir Singh is an explosive fast bowler for Jammu and Kashmir domestic cricket, but made his debut with Hyderabad rather than his home state in 2021. However, after quickly impressing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament with impressive performances for Hyderabad instead of Jammu and Kashmir domestically in 2021, Singh quickly earned himself an IPL contract with Lucknow Super Giants during their 2023 auction process.

His efforts quickly earned him his first match for the club against Punjab Kings and impressed with both speed and accuracy in dismissing Atharva Taide and Prabhsimran Singh to put them on the back foot from day one, finishing the match figures at 7/95.

Mumbai came into this clash as clear favorites due to their lengthy tradition and star-studded lineup, yet J&K proved capable of mounting a challenge – as evidenced by brilliant individual performances, strategic bowling changes, and an epic chase that lasted three days!

J&K’s bowlers led by Umar Nazir Mir and Yudhvir Singh took advantage of early bounce and swing on a pitch expected to favour batsmen, as Shubham Khajuria and Vivrant Sharma played key roles. J&K compiled their total of 210. Mumbai struggled early, with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal falling cheaply before Shardul Thakur and Tanush Kotian formed a partnership which brought them close to reaching the target of 205 runs.

Shubham Khajuria’s Consistent Batting

Mumbai was expected to dominate against Jammu and Kashmir, yet their fearless approach turned the match into an unlikely battle of David against Goliath – featuring superb individual performances, strategic bowling changes, and an edge-of-your-seat chase! Here are some highlights from this epic contest.

After an uncertain start, Shubham Khajuria’s steady innings gave J&K hope. Unfazed by pressure – often hard on flat Wankhede pitches – his 113-ball effort featured 18 fours and two sixes, providing J&K with hope despite an otherwise disappointing showing from their top order batsmen. Although this knock may not have stood out amongst many batsmen making hundreds this season, it nevertheless served as a solid debut performance from this youngster.

On a day when runs were scarce, Khajuria led his innings from the front and helped J&K reach 205/6. Unfortunately he was dismissed just short of reaching his second first-class hundred; but having done his homework, he recognized his team needed him at the crease.

Shubham was supported by Parvez Rasool’s gritty half-century and Tanush Kotian’s resistance; Rasool’s score marked his first score above 50 in his inaugural season with the team, while Abid Mushtaq’s unbeaten 32 ensured J&K completed their innings without further mishaps – it was an all-round performance from Jammu and Kashmir who won their first Ranji Trophy match since 2023-24!

Shardul Thakur’s Brilliant Bowling

Shardul Thakur has been an outstanding bowler for Mumbai Cricket Team during domestic cricket competition. The fast bowler possesses excellent variation in pace and uses both swing and seam to devastate batsmen. Coached by Glenn McGrath during training sessions, Shardul Thakur has shown marked improvement since then.

Vidarbha started their Ranji Trophy semi-final against Mumbai off right with strong performances by Danish Malewar (79) and Dhruv Shorey (74) on Monday at Wankhede Stadium, yet were unable to extend their lead as their visitors failed to keep pace with the required run rate. Vidarbha took an early advantage, which they were unable to build upon once play resumed in their favour on Tuesday afternoon at Wankhede.

Mumbai have won an unprecedented 42 Ranji Trophies (one shared), 14 Irani Cups, and one National Cricket Trophy over their long and distinguished history of cricket in India’s premier domestic tournament – Ranji Trophy (and shared trophy), Irani Cup (14 times) and 29 Test wins from 29 appearances, making them an extremely consistent performer both domestically and in Test matches.
