India and New Zealand have met 119 times in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). Although India holds the edge overall in this format, New Zealanders have excelled at performing in major ICC tournament finals.
Varun Chakarvarthy bowled Glenn Phillips an accurate googly that kept low and hit him right between his stumps, thus ending an excellent partnership between himself and Williamson. Look at the New Zealand National Cricket Team Vs India National Cricket Team Timeline.
India: Virat Kohli (c), Hardik Pandya (wk), KL Rahul
India and England cricket has long been one of the fiercest sporting rivalries ever seen, producing some of the greatest matches and moments in Test, ODI, and Twenty20 internationals over decades. From Ashes match inaugural matches to modern day clashes featuring men in blue against white-clad tourists – this contest between two powerful nations has given world sport some unforgettable memories.
Virat Kohli has made it clear he does not condone comments made by Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul on an Indian television show about women, yet stated it won’t have an adverse impact on dressing room morale.
Pandya and Rahul made unwelcome remarks about women they had dated on a television show earlier this week, prompting the BCCI to issue them with a show-cause notice.
Rahul will likely take over as captain for the ODI series against Sri Lanka after Pandya asked for time off due to his conflicts with the board. Shubman Gill, who captained in some T20Is earlier this year, could also become Rahul’s replacement as captain.
New Zealand: Mitchell Santner (c), Michael Bracewell
New Zealand’s national cricket team, commonly referred to as the Kiwis, boasts some of the finest players in world cricket. Notable figures from New Zealand’s history include Sir Richard Hadlee, Brendon McCullum, Martin Crowe, Kane Williamson Ross Taylor Shane Bond and Daniel Vettori among many more legendary cricketers.
New Zealand have established themselves as one of the dominant teams in T20 cricket, winning five out of their last six tournaments and earning the fourth spot on the ICC ranking list. Mitchell Santner led his side to Champions Trophy victory in 2022 as captain.
Santner will be joined by Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson and Glenn Phillips for the five-match T20 series against Pakistan beginning this Sunday at Hagley Oval in Christchurch; however regular skipper Kane Williamson must miss due to his commitments with Mumbai Indians in India Premier League (IPL).
The Black Caps will look to build on their Champions Trophy success with victory in the T20 series against Pakistan. Their chances will be strengthened by local player Zak Foulkes, who scored three consecutive one-day international centuries for Canterbury during last year’s Super Smash victory against Central Districts. He should be joined by fellow pace bowlers Matt Henry, Jacob Duffy and domestic teammate Zak Hay.
Varun Chakarvarthy
New Zealand, commonly referred to as the Black Caps, are one of the best teams in the world but never seem too arrogant or boastful despite being among the very best teams. People respect them because they work hard and fight until the very end without backing down from a challenge – something people find admirable and revere. Also very humble, they acknowledge it’s not always easy winning games; tomorrow in their Champions Trophy final against India they will carry this mentality forward with them.
Varun Chakarvarthy is an intriguing spinner with the potential to cause havoc for opposing batsmen. He holds various notable records across formats and is an extremely dangerous threat; recently becoming the youngest Indian bowler ever to claim five wickets in one ODI match (eclipsing Stuart Binny’s record of doing it after just three ODI appearances).
Chakarvarthy made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka at Colombo on July 25, 2021 and took just 1/28 with an economy rate of 7. He managed to take one wicket, that of Dasun Shanaka from Sri Lankan team captain Dasun Shanaka.
Chakarvarthy played an essential part in India achieving their record third ICC Champions Trophy victory, helping Rohit Sharma chase down their target of 252 runs and lift the trophy for an unprecedented third time. Without him making his presence felt, Rohit would likely have struggled making runs; thanks to Chakarvarthy’s quick knock of 76 runs off 83 balls alone they managed to defend their crown once more.
Glenn Phillips
New Zealand made an impactful statement at the Champions Trophy final despite missing some key players, led by Michael Bracewell, Rhys Mariu, and Daryl Mitchell’s late flourish. India bowlers struggled and were punished in the death overs by Akif Javed’s four-wicket haul while Naseem Shah and Sufiyan Muqeem each took one wicket each.
As they attempted to defend their total, the Black Caps suffered early setbacks and regular wicket losses during their chase of it. Kane Williamson’s 69-ball innings gave them enough momentum to maintain run rate and fight for victory – although ultimately this wasn’t enough as they ultimately fell short by 70 runs.
Glenn Phillips is a compact yet muscular hitter known for playing outrageous shots such as the reverse pull. After playing for various T20 teams around the world, Phillips has extensive experience chasing down and finishing big scores. Furthermore, he bowls fastish offspin quickly while fielding superbly both inside the ring and outfield.
New Zealand captain Dean Brownlie is one of the premier all-rounders in one-day international cricket and will be vital for them on spin-friendly pitches. He has shown impressive form throughout this tournament and will aim to score big during their title match.
