Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings

Rajasthan Royals scored their maiden win of the season over Chennai Super Kings at Guwahati after Nitish Rana hit an unbeaten 81 from 36 balls to help achieve a total of 182. Jofra Archer and Wanindu Hasaranga stood out amongst the bowlers for Guwahati.

CSK appeared poised for victory until they were reduced to nine wickets in the final over. Their batting lineup led by MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja faltered despite some late hits by them both as seen in Rajasthan Royals Vs Chennai Super Kings Match Scorecard.

RCB’s dominance at Chepauk highlighted CSK’s weak batting. It remains to be seen if Chennai can improve their underwhelming start, while Royal Challengers Bengalure can take heart in knowing they have a solid side capable of competing with most teams in the league; led by Riyan Parag who has shown impressive leadership skills early in this season as well as being an excellent batsman himself.

First Innings

Rajasthan Royals need a win against Chennai Super Kings at Guwahati’s ACA Stadium on Sunday to put their campaign back on the right path and shake off consecutive hard-fought defeats in IPL 2025. They can do that on April 13.

Home side have enjoyed an outstanding start to their campaign, winning all four matches thus far. A victory could propel them into first place with old rivals eager to avenge two consecutive defeats.

The Royals currently sit third in the standings with 14 points from eight matches, one point ahead of second-placed Mumbai Indians with one game left against them – as well as five IPL titles to their name! Ten finals appearances and 12 playoff berths make them one of the most successful franchises.

Second Innings

The home team make a positive start in their pursuit of victory as Jofra Archer bowls an over without conceding any runs to provide them with a solid platform for success.

Rahul Tripathi and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad led the charge for RR, hitting some boundaries along the way – though their efforts ultimately weren’t enough when wickets began falling at regular intervals.

18.1: Khaleel Ahmed to Ruturaj Gaikwad, Out! Ruturaj was caught short of his crease as he tried to run through the shot, with Hetmyer taking an excellent low catch at deep midwicket.

19.1: Jofra Archer to Shivam Dube, Out! A massive appeal for leg-before wicket fails as the ball pitches between middle and leg, however the umpire doesn’t go upstairs as expected and no decision appears to have been made by him.

20.2: Shivam Dube to Yarran Lewis, SIX! Dhoni finished off an outstanding innings for former Royal Challengers Bangalore player Yarran Lewis by hitting an off-length delivery from Shivam Dube for six. That marked an excellent 61 off 49 balls scored by Lewis.

Third Innings

Although their season started off slowly, Royals have found ways to control their inconsistency. After beating Deccan Chargers at ACA Barsapara Cricket Stadium, they lost to a powerful Pune Warriors India side led by Ross Taylor before coming back strongly against Deccan Chargers at home in their next match at Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

Following their loss against Kolkata Knight Riders in their previous match, Rajasthan Royals must win to remain competitive for top four status and qualify for playoffs. Their bowlers must make an immediate impact through effective bowling tactics in order to remain in contention for top four qualification.

Ruturaj Gaikwad of Rajasthan Railways noted their lack of proactive batsman during the Powerplay cost them runs, although he felt they set an appropriate target on this wicket. Jofra Archer made an impactful debut, bowling an outstanding first over with no wickets falling and then bowling two dots within an over’s span; before getting hit for two singles off one ball and two dots within three overs before bowling an excellent fifth over with two dots back-to-back to close out this innings.

Final Innings

Nitish Rana and Wanindu Hasaranga’s impressive bowling performance was enough to secure their maiden victory for Rajasthan Royals against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), even with Ruturaj Gaikwad leading their chase with fifty runs. Hasaranga’s variations and wrong’uns exposed their soft spots; taking four wickets during death overs alone to help seal off a six-run win for Rajinder Raina’s side.

Jofra Archer quickly turned the tide in CSK’s favor in their opening over with an excellent wicket maiden delivery at 142kph which hit Rachin Ravindra off his bat for a duck.

Rahul Tripathi was pushed back on a short, outside off delivery from Shimron Hetmyer and attempted to hit it, only managing to get it nearer the outside edge of his circle. Shimron Hetmyer dived forward and took an outstanding catch at deep midwicket to take down Tripathi quickly for just 175 runs; CSK have lost eight matches when set 175 or more runs to defend in total and three this season when put into chase mode in final over.
