RCB 196/7 in 20 overs

Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally ended a 17-year winless streak at MA Chidambaram Stadium by defeating Chennai Super Kings by 50 runs in their IPL 2025 clash on Friday, ending their five-time champion’s dominance at home ground and moving into fourth position in the table.

Rajat Patidar led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to 196/7 in 20 overs through an inspired late surge from their captain. He made 51 off 32 balls, supported by Devdutt Padikkal’s 29 from 14 deliveries; both batsmen were dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin and Noor Ahmad in the 15th over.

Phil Salt’s aggressive hitting off Khaleel Ahmed earned RCB an early advantage, as he struck two successive boundaries from him within one over. Unfortunately for Salt, MS Dhoni made quick work of stemming his aggression with an excellent stumping off him by effecting an excellent stumping off him in just the second over.

Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bangalore looked to rebuild the innings by overdoing his sweep shots against spinners, only to eventually be dismissed by Noor Ahmad for 31 off 30 balls. Tim David came in and played an invaluable cameo of 22 off eight balls that lifted RCB out of its slump – hitting three sixes off Sam Curran’s final over and taking them past 200. Now they look set to defend their total and move towards semi-finals.

CSK 146/8 in 20 overs

CSK struggled once again at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday after suffering another humiliating defeat against Delhi, managing only to score 146/8 after winning the toss and batting first despite winning the toss. This total fell far short of their expected target.

Phil Salt and Rahul Tripathi had set the visitors off well in the powerplay, but their innings quickly unravelled due to miscues and errors from both players. Noor Ahmad deceived Salt with a sharp googly from Noor Ahmad while MS Dhoni pulled off an amazing stumping off Noor Ahmad; and Kohli stuttered against slower balls before eventually being caught by Rachin Ravindra at deep midwicket off Sam Curran for 31 off 30 balls.

Home side lost two wickets within one over in the 13th over, placing themselves under immense pressure. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took an important scalp when Deepak Hooda missed out on scoring his maiden century but instead managed only 78 runs off 49 deliveries before falling victim to Bhuvneshwar’s spin bowling attack in subsequent over.

Rajat Patidar of the visitors played an impressive innings before being dismissed by Noor Ahmad for 50 off 30 balls. Still, spinners kept RCB at bay during the death overs, with Matheesha Pathirana picking up three wickets while Noor and Liam Livingstone taking two each.

Kohli showed great form and timing with his shots to post his 64th IPL fifty. Stand-in skipper Ishan Kishan also performed admirably, hitting leg-spinner Suyash Sharma for sixes off two overs before smashing Krunal Pandya for three sixes in one over.

New Zealand seamer Jacob Duffy made an immediate impact during his inaugural IPL appearance for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), taking three wickets on an unpredictable pitch that provided some bounce and movement at times. Duffy replaced injured Australian pacer Pat Cummins and made full use of it by taking three scalps for just 22 runs.

David Payne of Gloucestershire and England took 2-35 on his debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad but couldn’t stop the onslaught from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). However, Phil Salt managed a one-handed diving catch to dismiss Kishan for 80 off 38 balls courtesy of Payne’s bowling.

CSK 202 in 15.5 overs

RCB have become the first team in IPL history to chase down a 200+ run target with more than 25 balls remaining, including against Sunrisers Hyderabad at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on March 28. They accomplished this feat in 15.4 overs and won by six wickets.

Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore’s attack with an unbeaten 69 off 38 balls and was well supported by Devdutt Padikkal’s blistering 61 from 26 deliveries – both batsmen combining for 127 runs at the second wicket to help RCB reach their target in 15.5 overs.

Before play began, however, a moment of silence was observed to honor 11 Royal Challengers Bangalore fans who died during a stampede at Victory Parade on June 4.
