Sri Lanka National Cricket Team Vs Bangladesh National Cricket Team Timeline

The result of this match will have a big impact on both teams. A win would boost Sri Lanka’s chances of getting out of the group of death while a loss could leave Bangladesh in trouble.

Madushanka is back for another over. He starts off well as Shanto pulls one towards the deep extra cover region for a boundary. Shakib then lofts one towards the long-off region for a second boundary.

Toss

The toss was won by Bangladesh and they have chosen to bowl first. This match is going to be a crucial one for both sides as they try to escape the so-called group of death. Sri Lanka suffered a shock defeat against South Africa in their opening game and now they have to win the remaining two games if they want to qualify for the next stage of the tournament.

Angelo Mathews and Shanto lash out at the bowler here as they look to get some runs off this over. A couple of singles come from the over. Shanto then punishes the bowler by sweeping it towards the square region for a boundary. Another one comes towards the long-on region as well. Seven runs coming off the over.

Mahmudullah is the man to go for Bangladesh here as he looks to hit his fifty here. He starts off by taking the single and then he goes on to hit the maximum which was pulled towards the deep square leg region. A few more singles are taken from the over as Bangladesh move closer to their target.

Bowling

After a slow start, Bangladesh came into the game in the last couple of overs and they got some quick runs with Tanzim Hasan Sakib (21* off 13 balls) and Towhid Hridoy (12* off 7) adding to it. Mahmudullah’s (16* off 13) presence helped them put the game under control.

But the Sri Lankan bowlers did not allow the Bangladesh batters to build on their run-rate and they kept putting pressure on them. This resulted in some sledges between the two sides which added more spice to the contest.

Dhananjaya de Silva is now into his spell and he starts off with a fuller delivery which Shanto gets to the fine leg region for a boundary here. The next one is shorter and he lofts it towards the long-off region for another four here. There is a good amount of dew here and the batsmen have to play smartly here.

Theekshana Theekshana is back into the attack and he keeps the ball on the straight and narrow. He does not concede any runs in his first over as the Bangladesh batsmen take only three singles in it. He then comes with a straighter one and Mehidy takes a single but fails to clear the boundary. Theekshana then follows it up with a slower ball which Mehidy looks to drive but the ball goes into the point region for a single.

Batting

After a disappointing loss to South Africa, Sri Lanka are looking to bounce back against their old rivals Bangladesh. The last time the two sides met, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 77 in New York. They were aiming to win the game, but ended up losing by six wickets, which dented their net run rate and made it harder for them to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Kasun Rajitha is into the attack here for Sri Lanka and he starts off with the fuller length wide on the off-side. He then delivers a shorter delivery which is pulled towards the deep square leg region for a four. Litton follows it up with one lofted towards the long-off region for another boundary. 19 runs coming off this over from Bangladesh.

Theekshana comes into the attack and he starts off with a short straight delivery. He then gets a yorker on the leg side which Mehidy Hasan looked to clear the boundary but it found the fielder at point. 1 run from this over for Bangladesh.

Taskin aims to restrict the run-rate with a good spell. He could have had a couple of wickets here if not for some poor fielding from Kusal Perera at long-leg. He then dismisses Tanzid Hasan and almost had Litton Das reprieved but the batsman misjudged a simple chance.

Fielding

The pitch is playing nicely under the lights, there’s some turn and some bounce. It’s a good surface for batsmen, but a tough one for bowlers. Kasun Rajitha comes on for Sri Lanka and gets some movement off the seam early on. But he isn’t finding the line and his first over goes for just four runs.

And then he has to go back in for the second over and that’s even worse. He tries to slash at a back of a length ball that is angling away from him and he looks to get a thick edge to the keeper but the umpire says it’s not out. Sri Lanka aren’t happy with the decision but UltraEdge shows it was right. SL 73-3 after 16.

Matheesha Pathirana starts the next over well but is taken by surprise when Litton Das drives him full and straight for a six off the inside edge. He takes a review but it’s overturned as the batsman is found on leg. SL 96-6 after 21.

But Theekshana can’t hold on to his hundred as he tries a carrom ball down the ground and it slips between his pad and gully and is caught with ease. He falls for a stunning 82 off just 97 balls and Bangladesh are all out for 258 with 10 overs still to play.
