The Eagles and Commanders share an illustrious rivalry, featuring breathtaking matchups that keep fans riveted to their seats. This game was no different. The Eagles’ dynamic offense led by an agile quarterback made them formidable opponents while their resilient defense could capitalize on turnovers efficiently.
Frankie Luvu swindled Kenny Pickett into throwing an interception, setting up an easy touchdown opportunity for the Eagles and sealing their win. That play proved vital.
QB Jayden Daniels
Jayden Daniels is quickly making a name for himself as one of the premier rookie quarterbacks of recent times. A dual-threat quarterback, Daniels led his Commanders team to an 11-5 record this season while making its inaugural playoff appearance ever.
Both teams are determined to secure their playoff spots. While the Eagles entered as favorites, early on the Commanders outshone them by missing a field goal on their opening possession before scoring on their second. Daniels found Terry McLaurin for an unforgettable touchdown pass that gave his side an edge that they wouldn’t relinquish.
Although they had an impressive start, the Commanders struggled in the second quarter to keep up their momentum. A lost fumble on their next possession allowed Eagles’ to score on an 11-play touchdown drive – but Zack Baun and Oren Burks both recorded sacks while Reed Blankenship recovered a fumble recovery to give the Eagles another scoreless drive.
Frankie Luvu delivered an extremely hard hit that knocked Jalen Hurts out of the game, giving backup Kenny Pickett an opportunity to connect with AJ Brown on a short touchdown pass and settle Philadelphia nerves. Unfortunately for them though, their offense could not generate much in fourth quarter play despite several failed fourth-down gambles by Commanders quarterback Blake Bortles.
RB Saquon Barkley
The Eagles quickly took control of this game with their run game and Commanders turnovers. Over the course of this matchup, the Commanders turned over five times which would ultimately spell their defeat in this contest. Frankie Luvu picked off Kenny Pickett pass which allowed AJ Brown to run for his touchdown run before Dyami Brown’s fumble gave the Commanders back into it with another touchdown drive for them resulting in another touchdown drive in which Dyami Brown allowed them back in.
After an ineffective opening quarter, the Eagles offense came alive in the second. Saquon Barkley made two touchdown runs during this half and would eventually lead them with 115 total yards from scrimmage; additionally he caught two passes for 67 yards and one touchdown reception.
The Commanders defense had difficulty keeping up with the speedy Eagles running attack and penalties and missed tackles were costly to their success. Zack Baun, Oren Burks and Reed Blankenship all recorded sacks for the Eagles defense; on the Commanders side RB Brian Robinson displayed his usual power running style to wear down their defense with ease.
WR Terry McLaurin
As both teams were fighting for playoff berths and wild card spots, this game would surely be intense and competitive. Both sides made some big plays during the first half; however, Eagles were able to capitalize on turnovers to take control of the ball more often.
The Eagles defense was successful in forcing a fumble from the Commanders on their initial possession, as well as collecting another later in the game. Their offense capitalized on this by finding its way into the end zone early in the second half.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was in top form during this matchup, throwing three touchdown passes and having full control of their offense. With help from his receivers stretching the field and creating mismatches against slower cornerbacks, Hurts was unstoppable on offense.
The Eagles would score early and often in the third quarter behind kicker Jake Elliott’s field goal, with Daniels throwing bombs to McLaurin that cut into their lead before ultimately falling behind with late game drives from their opponents. Although losing, however, is no disgrace for Commanders as their impressive season comes to a close; next season will bring new head coach Dan Quinn and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.
TE Zach Ertz
The Eagles and Commanders have an enduring rivalry that regularly creates unforgettable moments that leave fans inspired long after the final whistle has blown. Many games hinge on timely execution and defensive standsouts; with high stakes on the line for both teams, their star players may attempt to gain an advantage by capitalizing on timing or defensive strength.
Frankie Luvu set the stage early when she tricked PIckett into throwing an interception that Garnder-Johnson quickly converted to a field goal for his Eagles side and took an early advantage.
On Washington’s next drive, their offense struggled to find any momentum before receiving a serious setback with Jalen Hurts leaving due to an accidental hit and forcing Kenny Pickett into quarterback duties as soon as play resumed.
Ertz would remain an integral component of the offense as he hauled in two passes from Daniels. Ertz has proven himself an efficient low-end tight end this season and could be considered for Fantasy managers ahead of free agency.
Ertz is an effective low-end tight end 1 (TE1) on Washington’s high-octane offense and should be an excellent play in all formats. He was listed as full go on Thursday, meaning he should be ready for Sunday’s matchup against Philadelphia Eagles.
