South Africa had an inauspicious start to their Test history, taking 17 years before winning their inaugural match due to an International Cricket Council ban due to anti-apartheid sentiment.
The Cricket Society of Australia (CSA) is more than a governing body – they’re at the core of cricket in our country, uniting communities and inspiring champions from local pitches all the way through to global arenas.

TV Channels
Starting August 10 in Darwin, Australia vs South Africa’s One Day International series promises international cricket at tropical venues in northern Australia. Both sides will experiment with team compositions that blend seasoned veterans with younger stars; though in terms of experience this format lacks, Australia lacks players such as Glenn Maxwell and Heinrich Klaasen who would normally feature prominently.
After their T20 tri-series final defeat against New Zealand, South African tourists have much to prove in ODIs and T20 tri-series matches against New Zealand. Young batsman Dewald Brevis who scored an astonishing century should be given credit for his performance and will likely partner skipper Temba Bavuma at number three for their ODI matches; all-rounder Wiaan Mulder may attempt to return after suffering through an inconsistent Champions Trophy campaign.
Australia will see the ODIs being broadcast live via Fox Cricket and Kayo Sports; both platforms provide free trial periods to new customers. Indian audiences can watch JioHotstar stream games live online while UK viewers can tune into TNT Sports 1. In America, Willow TV provides dedicated cricket streaming available through cable providers including Dish, Spectrum, Xfinity and Verizon Fios and can be added onto your current Sling TV plan or stand alone subscription plan – its live stream can also be followed on Wisden.com
Schedule
South Africa was officially reinstated into international cricket in 1991 and have quickly established themselves as one of the strongest teams ever seen on an ICC tournament stage since then – winning more than 60% of ODIs since their ban was lifted, including winning an unprecedented six tournaments at this event alone (Champion Trophy 1998 being their only success to date).
Proteas boast some of the top players in cricket, from Shaun Pollock and Dale Steyn’s bowling skills to those of Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers’ bat. Furthermore, their record in Test matches has been impressive with Hashim Amla and Graeme Smith among their most accomplished captains.
South Africa began their Test career underwhelmingly, winning only one match from their initial eleven. This slump can be traced back to the anti-apartheid movement leading up to an International Cricket Council tour ban against South Africa in 1970; which prevented world-class players like Graeme Pollock and Allan Donald from playing international cricket for extended periods during their careers.
In 2024, South Africa made history when they became the first team ever to lose a World Cup final after leading for most of it. Yet they remain one of the most successful teams in ICC white-ball tournaments; their greatest on-field achievements came during Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla’s time as captains when South Africa became unbeatable away from home.
Predictions
South Africa recently captured an historic World Test Championship and are in Australia for three Twenty20 and three ODI series. This series acts as a precursor for February’s T20 World Cup and both sides feature some highly touted players – Australia are without key figures such as Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, David Warner or Steve Smith but still boast some very talented cricketers on their squad.
Tim David scored an unbeaten 83 off 52 balls, joining Ben Dwarshuis in a 72-run stand to lift them to victory; unfortunately fielding errors hindered their efforts. 19-year-old Kwena Maphaka became the youngest bowler from a full member nation to claim four wickets in T20I cricket with 4 for 20.
South Africa will field Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma as its batsmen while Ryan Rickelton will keep wicket. 19-year-old Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Wiaan Mulder and Senuran Muthusamy may feature, with spinners Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi likely making appearances too (ranked second and fifth respectively in ICC Men’s T20I Bowler Rankings respectively). Dewald Brevis and Rassie van der Dussen may provide further support.
