Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines when he became the youngest Indian to ever play first-class cricket at age 13, representing Bihar in a Ranji Trophy match for Bihar. Additionally, this teenager contributed greatly towards India reaching the final of ICC U19 Asia Cup 2024 by scoring two half-centuries.
Rishabh Pant made his debut at 19 years 128 days and quickly established himself as India’s aggressive finisher with match-winning innings against Australia and England.
Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw, an opening batsman for Delhi Capitals of the Indian Premier League, made his Test debut against West Indies when he was only 18 years old. His impressive performance saw him become only second youngest Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to score a Test century on debut – his trademark backlift and classy drives earning praise from fans across India.
Young talent Amit Mishra quickly made headlines during domestic Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy tournaments with outstanding centuries in both Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy competitions, earning himself captaincy of India Under-19 team at Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka. Due to his talent and leadership ability, Delhi Daredevils were so impressed they included him on their Indian Premier League squad for Rs 1.2 crore contract.
Shaw was raised in Gaya, Bihar but relocated to Mumbai so he could pursue his dreams of becoming a cricketer. His father even temporarily suspended his apparel business to focus solely on training his son. Shaw quickly flourished on the youth cricket circuit as an adept batsman who led his country to an unblemished Under-19 World Cup victory.
Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant first made headlines at the 2016 Under-19 World Cup when he produced several match-winning innings against Nepal and Namibia, earning himself selection as an India limited overs player and making an impressionful showing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Since then he has become an integral component of India’s limited overs setup as well as making notable performances during IPL matches.
Pant’s career took an abrupt turn for the worse in December 2022 when he was involved in a car accident and suffered severe knee and back injuries that sidelined him for almost two years – yet due to his remarkable resilience and talent he managed to return much faster than anticipated.
After an outstanding Indian Premier League season with Delhi Capitals, Rishabh earned his Test debut against England at Trent Bridge for the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. While initially dropped for Wriddhiman Saha, Rishabh made headlines once more when he scored an eye-catching counterattacking 97 at Sydney to kickstart an incredible fourth innings chase.
Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma, known by his nickname Lambu due to his lean and tall frame, is an Indian fast bowler. He has played over 70 Tests for India and became only the fifth-youngest Indian to take 100 Test wickets at such an early age. Ishant prefers accuracy over pace but has reached speeds of over 150 km/h at times.
Ishant first caught the attention of fans when he replaced injured Zaheer Khan for Boxing Day Test in Melbourne during 2008 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia. His impressive performance won him selection to tour South Africa later that year, earning him an Arjuna Award nomination and eventual success!
Ishant was initially compared with Javagal Srinath due to his lean build and high arm action. Due to his fearsome pace and ability to bowl short deliveries of good length, Ishant earned himself the reputation as one of the most dangerous bowlers in international cricket – his seven wicket haul at Lord’s Test against England was instrumental in India winning both matches and series against them.
Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar is an off-spinner known for bowling tight lines and lengths with his off-spinners, possessing an innate knack for extracting extra bounce with creative variations and being an insightful reader of the game. His meticulous approach to preparation sets him apart.
Sundar made his debut in white-ball cricket during 2017 against Sri Lanka and played well as an auxiliary spinner but struggled with bat and was ultimately dropped after Champions Trophy due to inconsistency in performance.
He returned to action in 2021 when he was selected as part of India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour of Australia and played an instrumental role in their win at Brisbane Test.
Sundar was given his debut Test match upon Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement, playing an integral part in India’s 3-1 home-series win against England but not selected for either of the 2021 and 2024 World Cup tournaments; thus being seen as long-term prospect by India.
Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina left his hometown of Muradnagar in Uttar Pradesh to pursue a career in cricket in Lucknow. Through hard work and dedication to his craft, Raina has made quite an impression in cricket circles today – as an all-rounder who has represented India across three formats of play; also an IPL veteran having played for Chennai Super Kings; his 4985 runs prior to IPL 12 have become iconic performances amongst fans who love watching him make powerful strokes over midwicket or lofted straight drives while making big hits that leave their mark among audiences!
While Prithvi Shaw has emerged as one of the premier batsmen in Indian cricket, Raina remains a beloved figure known for both his batting prowess and fielding prowess. Raina has consistently impressed big match players during various contests – most recently against Australia in 2021 Border-Gavaskar series – proving himself an integral component of India’s middle order for years to come.
