Overview

Zimbabwe and India faced off in one of the most compelling matches of this series, and both teams displayed their superior skills to keep fans enthralled. India batted first and set an intimidating target for Zimbabwe before an determined Zimbabwe side came storming back strongly with Ravi Bishnoi’s career-best four for 13, Washington Sundar’s two wickets and Sikandar Raza’s maiden T20I wicket helping take down three Indian bowlers within five overs.

Zimbabwe needed to make an aggressive start, but both their main batters struggled against India’s bowlers. Finally, Ngarava managed to get things underway; unfortunately Mukesh Kumar took one wicket away from Ngarava before his innings was ended by Mukesh’s delivery; caught by third man fielder off a simple pick up shot by Mukesh, his wicket has since fallen and Zimbabwe now have their work cut out against India’s fifth bowling quota in order to remain competitive in this match.

India Team

India did exceptionally well defending a subpar total on Tuesday thanks to Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s strong batting, taking a 2-1 lead in the series. But a poor start by Zimbabwe in chasing their target and some missed chances cost them dearly; though Dion Myers played well at keeping Zimbabwe close but unfortunately their target proved too steep even with Blessing Muzarabani and Sikandar Raza picking up wickets for Zimbabwe – both must improve their bowling considerably for them to get back in this series.

Avesh struggles with his line and delivers a short outside off ball; Myers hops on its bounce to hit it over backward square leg for four. Riyan Parag attempts a reverse sweep but misses, however he manages a single off the next ball despite failing. Zimbabwe battled hard to stay competitive after initial setbacks in their game with India; however, their efforts fell short as India amassed a formidable total due to several misfields and missed chances that limited their progress.

Zimbabwe was represented at the 2003 World Cup by players like Travis Friend, Hamilton Masakadza, Prosper Utseya, Dougie Marillier, Craig Wishart, Tatenda Taibu and Elton Chigumbura – only some could match up to their legendary predecessors who played prior to that tournament.

Sikandar Raza was captaining his team when they won the toss and elected to bowl first. Though Zimbabwe expected the pitch would improve later, they struggled to contain Indian batsmen. Ravi Bishnoi was one of only few bowlers who provided any respite – bowling well but without success in getting wickets before being replaced by Brandon Mavuta during the 17th over.

Final words

Zimbabwe earned world respect with their energetic and disciplined cricket in one-day cricket matches. While their Test results were mixed, they won several matches and reached several international tournaments’ semi-finals. Eddo Brandes stood out with his brilliant bowling and fielding, earning Zimbabwe praise for its ability to play spin effectively.

Shubman Gill scored 66 and Ruturaj Gaikwad made 20 to help India post 182/4 after losing the toss and opting to bat first, however their lower order failed under pressure with debutants Abhishek Sharma (0), Riyan Parag (2) and Dhruv Jurel all falling short by only scoring single figures.

Zimbabwe’s batting was also cause for alarm. Clive Madande proved enough to help defend a low total and Sikandar Raza picked three wickets with his bowling; however, his batsmen failed to hit big shots as expected – something the team will hope to rectify in their final match and end the series on a high note.
