Riders Cricket team of Bangladesh is a professional Twenty20 franchise cricket team representing Rangpur Division, one of seven regions in Bangladesh. Led by Javed Omar as coach and captained by Shahid Afridi who previously competed for Hampshire in 2016 NatWest T20 Blast campaign, they play under coach Javed Omar under their coach Javed Omar’s tutelage. 

Rangpur Riders is owned and operated by iSports Limited, who acquired franchise rights for them through a closed auction held in 2012. Based out of Chattogram, its home ground is Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. The Riders achieved their most remarkable performance during the 2014 edition of the tournament, when they defeated Dhaka Dynamites in the final. 

That year they finished fifth overall but were disqualified due to a tie on points with Duronto Rajshahi – with all-rounder Mushrafe Mortaza scoring 161 runs while also becoming top wicket-taker of nine scalps during that year alone.

FBA won the toss and decided to bowl against Chattogram Challengers in their last match, limiting them to 135 runs for nine wickets lost. Their batsmen started slowly losing three wickets within the powerplay but James Neesham came to their aid with a magnificent 97-run innings that saved them. Sunil Narine made significant contributions with both bat and ball as he took Gayle wicket and helped the team chase down their target – earning him Player of the Match honors for an outstanding performance that resulted in wining them their match victory! He earned him Player of the Match honors for his efforts!

Rangpur Riders enter this matchup as favorites after seven consecutive victories under their belts, but will face an equally formidable Fortune Barishal side that has shown excellent form and can defend 180+ totals with ease. Iftikhar Ahmed and Shakib Al Hasan performed admirably against Chattogram Challengers to help their side post a competitive first innings score. 

Kyle Mayers and Mushfiqur Rahim assisted their side to chase down an impressive target of 183 with ease, scoring 48 runs while also picking up three wickets during the match. Kyle claimed three wickets himself while Mushfiqur Rahim claimed four wickets as well. 

Rangpur’s bowlers also looked in fine form with Mohammad Saifuddin and Obed McCoy both taking two wickets apiece. Iftikhar Ahmed will look to continue his impressive form after scoring a century against Comilla Victorians last time out – an innings which secured them top spot on the table and will ensure Rangpur remain there as long as he performs to his potential in this match. His performance will be crucial for Rangpur; another big score from Iftikhar Ahmed could see them remain there against Fortune; should they achieve that then it will be difficult for Fortune to stop them.

Rangpur Riders look to recover after suffering an unexpected defeat against Comilla Victorians in the final group stage game at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka on Feb 28. 

In their most recent match against Chattogram Challengers, they posted an impressive total of 185 runs in 20 overs after winning the toss and opting to bowl first. Brandon King and Kyle Mayers led with 44 and 46 runs respectively while Josh Brown and Obed McCoy contributed with wicket-keeping duties as well. 

However, they were unable to reach their target in 20 overs and lost by seven wickets. Iftikhar Ahmed and Shakib Al Hasan of the winning side were the stars of this show as they put together a record-setting 192-run stand for fifth wicket with nine fours and six sixes between them in an innings which ended with an unbeaten 96 run partnership between Tamim Iqbal and Jimmy Neesham – an innings in itself!
