Match Scorecard
South Africa will attempt to qualify for their fifth straight U-19 World Cup final and India hopes to make history by becoming only the fourth non-test playing side ever to do so. The match kicks off at 1.30 pm IST, with the toss taking place half an hour beforehand.
Indian pace bowlers have done well against South Africa so far, with Raj Limbani taking three wickets while Steve Stolk and David Teeger each took two. But South Africa possesses batsmen capable of creating effective partnerships who possess international experience that could prove crucial against such a young Indian side.
South Africa openers Lhuan-dre Pretorius (76 off 102 balls) and Richard Seletswane both scored fifties to provide some momentum to their side, yet were unable to capitalize as their middle order collapsed; Tristan Luus was the final wicket when he edged an offcut straight to Muthiya in the deep; thus signalling India would come out victorious by an overwhelming margin.
Uday Saharan led India’s charge with an outstanding century, while Sachin Dhas also made an unbeaten one to help reach 244/6. India lost two early wickets – Rudra Mayur Patel and Murugan Abhishek both fell within three balls – but Saharan held firm and won it for India.

Cricket fans around the world look forward to South African and Indian matches on an international stage for two reasons – their intense rivalry and high-scoring matches often come down to the wire. Their Under-19 battles provide audiences with some of the finest young talent that the sport has to offer; these clashes often help shape young players’ careers for years after.
South African under-19s remain hopeful despite controversy surrounding David Teeger’s departure, believing they can perform well in this tournament. Their new captain Juan James boasts extensive experience playing under-19 football and should bring more depth and stability to their squad.
This year’s ICC Under-19 World Cup will include 16 teams from eight continents, as well as the top ten teams from previous tournaments and five winners of regional qualification tournaments from 2016.
Finalists will be pitted in a single-elimination tournament to determine who will represent their nation at this year’s championship tournament, hosted this time around by South Africa.
The tournament will take place from 19 January to 11 February 2024 at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein and marks South Africa’s third hosting of this event since 2014. St Stithians College and Hoerskool Waterkloof both produced four representatives for South Africa during 2014; Tristan Luus from Waterkloof was recently added as one. Esosa Aihevba also joined as part of Waterkloof’s roster after replacing Esosa Aihevba who replaced Esosa Aihevba in this squad.
India national under-19 cricket team
India overcame some jittery moments to defeat South Africa and advance to the fifth final of the Under-19 World Cup at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on Tuesday. Skipper Uday Saharan and Sachin Dhas collaborated in a 171-run partnership, helping lift India from 32/4 when their chase for 245 proved daunting.
Raj Limbani hit an early four as the boys in blue began their pursuit with an impressive total to chase down. Musheer Khan took another wicket soon thereafter as Ryan Hicks caught one of his short deliveries at gully.
Kwena Maphaka and Tristan Luus have made excellent use of the new ball to put Indian batters off balance early in this chase of 245. Their bowlers have employed short balls as well as fuller deliveries effectively to rattle Indian batsmen quickly while striking several blows themselves in doing so.
But Adarsh Singh and Arshin Kulkarni kept India in contention until Maphaka took advantage of Adarsh edging the ball to wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum for seven runs, providing Australia a great chance at their fourth Under-19 World Cup title. Mahli Beardman and Raf MacMillan then both took three wickets each as India collapsed by 79 runs in their final innings batting innings to seal victory by Australia.
Final words
India’s openers kept their nerve and held firm despite an uncertain start. Uday Saharan played an essential role in keeping India’s run rate above nine – eventually contributing 174 runs with Ardah Singh! Raj Limbani and Musheer Khan provided economical bowling spells as well.
Adarsh Singh narrowly missed out on reaching 50 when he hit Tristan Luus’ short bouncer straight back into the keeper, then missed slower delivery from Tristan Luus and was caught behind on subsequent delivery from him.
With four overs left to play and India trailing by four wickets with four overs remaining, India were under considerable pressure as they searched for their fifth wicket to bring themselves back into contention. But as proof that this team should never be written off, Quinton de Kock’s game awareness, Ottneil Baartman’s clutch penultimate over against Netherlands and Kagiso Rabada’s death-bowling maturity against USA, Bangladesh, Nepal and England all rose to meet this challenge head on.
